Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to everyone!

Christmas is celebrated by many, including non-Christians. It is a time for family and friends to gather and meet and gift exchanges are usually one of the highlights. More on Christmas on Wikipedia.

On behalf of the Group, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. Enjoy the following Indian style 12 days of Christmas, performed by animated popstar, Boymongoose and Indian boyband.

Scouty Videos

Today, I have created a new section called “Scouty Videos” under our Resources area. This will collate all the scouting related videos that have been posted recently and moving forward. Do have a look!

Scout Law Videos

Did you know the Scout Law is different in different countries? Do you know how many Scout Laws were there in the first Scouting for Boys?

Answer: There were actually 9 Scout Laws which were as follows:

  1. A Scout’s honour is to be trusted.
  2. A Scout is loyal.
  3. A Scout’s duty is to be useful and to help others.
  4. A Scout is a friend to all, and a brother to every other Scout, no matter to what social class the other belongs.
  5. A Scout is courteous.
  6. A Scout is a friend to animals.
  7. A Scout obeys orders.
  8. A Scout smiles and whistles.
  9. A Scout is thrifty.

Over time and countries, these Scout Laws were modified for each country’s usage. A comprehensive source of information on all the Scout Law of the various countries can be found at Wikipedia.

Also, enjoy some commercials produced by the Boy Scouts of America (BSA for short) that were found on YouTube.

Interesting Scouting Videos

Would like to showcase some interesting scouting videos that I have found online.

Boy Scout Commercial – Helpful
This is a 30 commercial about Boy Scouting featuring the Scout Law point – helpful. It is comical and shows how far a Scout may go to be helpful. (Note: Helpful is one of the Scout Law in the USA but not Singapore)

Cub Scouting Commerical (Door Lock)
Here is a humorous commercial promoting Cub Scouting. A father and son are working on one of the Cub Scout requirements by fixing the lockset on the back door.

“The Truth About Scouting” BSA promo
A 60-second spot for the Boy Scouts of America, first showing the public’s perception of scouting, then the real thing. (For some reason it’s very choppy, like stop-frame, but that wasn’t intended. I don’t know why YouTube is doing that.)
